Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho wants Daniel Levy to sign him a right-back in the January transfer window.

Tottenham want to bring in a right-back in the January transfer window with Norwich’s Max Aarons and RB Leipzig’s Nordi Mukiele the two names being considered by Jose Mourinho. The Spurs boss has decided it’s the area of his team that is in need of the most improvement ahead of the second half of the campaign.

Spurs sold Kieran Trippier to Atletico Madrid last summer but decided against signing a replacement.

It’s a decision that has left them shortchanged at the back and ultimately paying the price, with Serge Aurier repeatedly at fault for a number of goals being conceded.

According to Sky Sports man Aidan Magee, Tottenham have made Aarons and Mukiele their first choice options now that the window has opened.

“A right-back target has emerged in Max Aarons at Norwich,” he said on the Sky Sports Transfer Show.

“He was a very accomplished performer at Norwich last season.

“The figure is £30million, he’s only young, you’d think that further down the line that might look quite cheap.

“There is also competition from Arsenal, Everton and West Ham who are also sniffing around.

“There is also interested in the RB Leipzig defender Nordi Mukiele.

“A lot of players at RB Leipzig have been mentioned regarding moves in the last few weeks.

“If you look at the options already at right-back, Serge Aurier went there two and a half years ago, one Tottenham friend of mine called him a calamity after he scored an own-goal at Norwich.

“Kyle Walker-Peters has been linked with Brighton and last summer they let Kieran Trippier go to Atletico Madrid.

“I think Mourinho has identified holes at the back, he likes a very very tight defence.

“He likes to use a low block particularly away from home and he’s obviously identified right-back as a weakness.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if they went for Max Aarons, if not in this window they must do a deal for the player to move in the summer.”

Mourinho has urged Tottenham fans not to expect major ongoings at the club this month, but he did hint that Spurs will do business if it is right for them, but firstly players will need to be sold.

“That was very clear for me [players must be sold first] and is very important for me to understand that before I come,” he admitted.

“That’s very simple but in the end what I want is the same as everyone in the club wants.

“This is our first transfer window, not the last. We are going to have one in the summer, we are going to have one in 2021 January, we are going to have another one in the summer of 2021. So this is not our last transfer window.

“We are going to have to try to be intelligent and we have to try to make the right decisions, not just for now, but for the development of a cycle.”
