Chelsea and Tottenham are keen on the transfer of Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli with Frank Lampard and Jose Mourinho desperate for defensive reinforcements

Chelsea and Tottenham are in contact with Kalidou Koulibaly's agent as transfer talks ramp up over a potential £100m deal.

The Napoli star has been one of the best players in his position over the past two seasons.

And it has led to intense speculation over his future, with several Premier League clubs interested over the years.

One has been Chelsea, who have been looking at the Senegalese star since Jose Mourinho's second spell in charge back in 2015.

And the Portuguese coach has continued his interest in the centre-back after taking over at Tottenham - a job he took in November.

According to Corriere del Mezzogiorno’s Campania edition, the area where Naples is the capital, Koulibaly has been linked with both London clubs.

Furthermore, his agent is in contact with the Premier League outfits over a potential transfer worth around £100m.

Koulibaly has seen his form drop at the Neapolitan club but he is not the only one.

Internal problems with chairman Aurelio de Laurentiis led to the sacking of Carlo Ancelotti and there have been reports that a squad mutiny was on the cards.

And Koulibaly was reportedly one of the ringleaders, which could lead to his Naples exit.

That would suit Chelsea and Tottenham fine, who are in dire need of centre-backs.

Frank Lampard has struggled to keep the ball out of the net for his side - with a particular weakness to set-pieces.

And in north London, matters have not been particularly impressive - with Mourinho overseeing just one clean sheet during his time in charge.

Jan Vertonghen will also see his contract expire in the summer and there are no plans for him to renew.
