The full-back has struggled to force his way into Ernesto Valverde's starting XI this season with Sergi Roberto nailing down the right-back spot.

And the lack of game time has forced Semedo into a corner and Barca will finally let him move elsewhere in the search of regular football, according to Spanish outlet Sport.

The Catalans would reportedly prefer to hold on to the 26-year-old but are willing to cash in given the situation.

Semedo has played a full game in just eight of Barca's 18 La Liga games so far this campaign.

Despite the fact United splashed out on Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the summer, they have been long time admirers of the Portuguese and could still bring him in to play on the left.

Luke Shaw has struggled for form this season, and despite being the highest paid full-back in the world, is not a popular figure among the Old Trafford faithful at the moment.

There is a general feeling United need strikers this month and while this transfer window may be too soon for the Red Devils to move for Semedo, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admitted they do have money to spend.

Speaking on New Year's Eve, the Norwegian said: "I’m optimistic we can keep players fit and if the right ones become available we do have the resources and I do have the backing from the board.

"One addition, and if you get two additions, of course that will be competition for places.

"But it’s also about getting the right ones. It has to be.

"There’s no point suddenly bringing someone else in now for the sake of three or four months if that can disrupt any good feeling or chemistry in the group, because the chemistry in the group is really good.

"It has to be the right type and it has to be a good investment for the long-term as well."
