Gary Bowyer delighted with battling Bradford

Bradford manager Gary Bowyer was pleased with his side’s patience after seeing them beat Morecambe 1-0 at Valley Parade.

The promotion-chasing Bantams stretched their unbeaten run to seven games but left it late against the side currently second from bottom in League Two.

Substitute Aramide Oteh scored the only goal 11 minutes from time when he forced home Connor Wood’s cross from close range.

Bowyer said: “I half-expected that type of game. Morecambe may be low on confidence in terms of the final third but they’ve got experience of getting out of there and the know-how.

“We knew it was going to be a challenge and it proved that. The pitch was difficult again for both teams and it was no classic.

“But we have got that patience and desire and the spirit to find ways to win. The real bit of quality from the game got us the winner.

“Remi did ever so well to get the ball under control and then show the composure to lift it over the goalkeeper.

“The subs made a difference – and I think we’ve been very good at that all season.

“When we’ve brought people on, they have made an impact whether that is setting someone up or scoring goals. As we’ve said all along, it’s a squad game.”

Morecambe had the best first-half chance when Steven Old headed Luke Conlan’s free-kick against the Bradford bar.

Bradford also hit the woodwork through substitute Zeli Ismail’s half-volley.

Morecambe boss Derek Adams said: “We dominated the game and Bradford had one shot on target and scored. You wouldn’t have known who was the fourth-placed team.

“We’re really disappointed to lose but we took the game to Bradford ever so well.

“The supporters turned on their team at half-time getting the booing going and we knew we had a good opportunity.

“That was probably the best performance we’ve had since I came in with the way we dealt with their threats and the problems we caused them.

“I’ve been here with Plymouth Argyle and won and not done as well as we have done today. To have 17 shots, and 10 of them were blocked as well, tells you what a dominant performance it was.”

Morecambe are only a point above bottom club Stevenage but Adams remains confident of survival.

He added: “There’s nothing in this league. In years gone by the standard of League Two was a lot better than it is now.

“I’ve been here with Plymouth when we had the likes of Portsmouth, Luton and Doncaster and the standard is not the same as it was.

“We see some light with the way that we’re playing and the way we’ve coped with a team sitting fourth in the league.”
