Alex Neil could welcome back David Nugent and Patrick Bauer as Preston host Middlesbrough in the Championship on New Year’s Day.
Striker Nugent missed the 2-0 loss to Reading on Sunday due to an eye injury but has recovered in time to face his former club.
And defender Bauer could also feature again after missing two games while recovering from a virus.
Long-term absentee Louis Moult (anterior cruciate ligament) is joined by Daniel Johnson (knee) on the injury list.
Jonathan Woodgate’s Middlesbrough are boosted by the return of both Paddy McNair and Marcus Browne, who are free to play after serving three-match suspensions.
Both players have been absent since receiving straight red cards during Boro’s 3-1 loss to Swansea on December 14.
Striker Britt Assombalonga has been struggling with a knee injury since early December but could be fit to return at Deepdale.
Defenders George Friend (tendon), Ryan Shotton (ankle) and Anfernee Dijksteel (knee) are all doubtful alongside goalkeeper Darren Randolph (thigh).
