Slow start leaves Newport boss Michael Flynn fuming

Newport manger Michael Flynn was left frustrated after his side were held to a 1-1 draw by Leyton Orient at Rodney Parade.

An early goal by Ruel Sotiriou put the visitors ahead before Padraig Amond equalised with nine minutes to go.

The draw leaves County without a win in nine League Two games.

“I am absolutely fuming that we gave them the start we gave them,” said Flynn.

There was so many things wrong with players switching off.

“Their player having a free header was so frustrating. You do all your work and it’s just a lack of communication.

“But after that there was only one team who tried to win this football match and the draw was the least we deserved because we were dominant throughout.

“Everybody has seen the players were all together. They all put in a massive shift as they did at Exeter.

“They worked their socks off and deserved more than that today but they’ve got to be more professional in terms of identifying when things slightly change.

“You can give them all the instructions in the world but if things change they’ve got to be able to adapt on the pitch.”

Orient manager Ross Embleton was annoyed at the performance of referee Lee Swabey.

He said: “We made a fantastic start but I was very disappointed that we didn’t build on our early goal.

“We had some good moments here and there but I didn’t think we did enough to impose ourselves on the game and that’s something we’ve got to look at.

“It was a case of holding on in the second half and from my perspective we’ve got to look at that as a positive.

“It was important the back four stood up to be counted. We showed a lot of battling qualities.

“I’m starting to expect the level of refereeing performances we are getting at the moment. The referee was below par.

“I was annoyed that some fouls were given and others weren’t. Not just for us it’s for both teams and that’s really disappointing.”
