Atletico Madrid closing in on Cavani signing

Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani is close to sealing a January move to Atletico Madrid.

Diego Simeone is keen to add another striker to his ranks and the Uruguayan is seen as the ideal fit.

MARCA understand that there is an agreement between Atletico and Cavani for a contract that would last for two and a half years.

PSG's record goalscorer has fallen out of favour at the Parc des Princes since the arrival of Mauro Icardi and is keen on a switch to Atletico, meaning that an agreement between the two clubs is all that is missing.

The Parisians would would prefer to keep him until the end of the season, however they don't want to rupture relations with a player that has been such a loyal servant over the years.

As such, with the 32-year-old being out of contract in the summer, it will likely be a matter of how much Atletico would be willing to spend on a player who would instantly improve Los Rojiblancos' attack.

Thus, rather than wait until the summer, Atletico want to wrap up a deal now in order to give the side a boost in the second half of the campaign.

From PSG's perspective, the worry is that they would lose a world-class player who can still offer a lot as they enter the final stages of the four competitions they are competing in, even if he is having to make do with a place on the bench at present.

Cavani is not happy with his situation in Paris and Simeone wants him now. Waiting until June may be too late.

Atletico would need, should they have to pay a high amount for Cavani, to sell because of their salary limit issue.

Thomas Lemar would be the most viable option in terms of a departure, but that said, it's not expected to be a high figure that they pay for the former Napoli star.

At last, Cavani is very close to joining Atletico.
