Will Boyle’s second goal in two games rescued a 1-1 Sky Bet League Two draw for Cheltenham at home to Cambridge as they moved into the top three on goal difference.
The former Huddersfield youth defender headed in a cross from Ben Tozer eight minutes after the break to cancel out Paul Lewis’ first-half opener for the U’s.
Cheltenham almost took the lead in the 26th minute when Ryan Broom’s low ball was nearly forced over the line by Alex Addai, but his effort went just wide.
Lewis put Cambridge in front a minute later, firing past Scott Flinders from seven yards after a cross from Kyle Knoyle on the right.
Cheltenham were rocked and only a reaction save from goalkeeper Flinders denied Lewis a second in the 36th minute.
The home side showed a vast improvement after half-time, with Reuben Reid’s shot saved after a slick passing move involving four players.
They levelled through Boyle after 53 minutes and looked the more likely winners, although Reggie Lambe was close to snatching it for the visitors with a shot that flashed past the left post in the 71st minute.
