Derek Adams believes Morecambe were unlucky not to beat Carlisle

Morecambe manager Derek Adams felt his side were unlucky not to take the three points from their 1-1 Sky Bet League Two draw with Carlisle.

Hallam Hope had put the Cumbrians ahead just a minute after the half-time interval but John O’Sullivan headed Morecambe level four minutes later.

After his first home league game as the Shrimps’ boss, Adams said: “I thought we played very well and had by far the best opportunities in the game.

“We were unfortunate to go a goal down when we did but we responded well and we got a goal back quite quickly to get back into it and I thought we looked the more likely to score from then and I think we deserved to win the match.

“We passed the ball a lot better and looked a lot sharper. We have been looking to be more forceful and get the ball into dangerous positions and we did that today.

“The players have worked really hard in training and you could see that work come through today with players working well as a unit and getting into positions going forward to give us more opportunities than we have had in recent weeks.

“We would have liked to have won the game obviously but we dealt well with the threat Carlisle posed us and another point is a point in the right direction.’’

Carlisle head coach Chris Beech oversaw his side for the first time in the league.

After a 2-2 FA Cup draw at Forest Green last week in his first match he said: “I was really pleased with the structure of the team and the fact we scored another great goal but we conceded straight after scoring again which was another stomach blow for us.

“Overall I thought it was a decent performance but I would definitely like us to pass the ball better. We are showing some structure and we are getting forward more often but we need to retain the ball better and work harder to get forward more and get the ball in the box more.

“We have got to get away from making the silly mistakes so we can celebrate a win and move forward.”
