Dortmund join Man Utd in race for Juventus rejects Emre Can and Mario Mandzukic in bargain £26m transfer swoop
Juve duo Can and Mandzukic are reportedly sought after by Man Utd and Borussia Dortmund after falling down the pecking order in Italy.

BORUSSIA DORTMUND are rivalling Manchester United as they look to sign both Emre Can and Mario Mandzukic in January.

The Bundesliga side are looking to strengthen their squad and are eyeing up a double swoop, according to German media outlet SportBild.

Dortmund are not doing very well in the Bundesliga in sixth place and struggling in the Champions League.

They are in danger of not making it to the knockout stages.

Manager Lucien Favre is looking to sign the players for £26m after both have lost favour with Italian giants Juve under Maurizio Sarri.

But they are not the only ones who are keeping tabs on the pair.

Amid tough times for current Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, rumours of his replacement have been circulating over the last few months.

The Norwegian's start to the season has been disastrous.

He's won just two of his opening eight Premier League games.

One of the names flying around to take over has been former Juve boss Massimiliano Allegri.

Allegri is reportedly keen on bringing in the two misfits should he land the job at Old Trafford.

Former Liverpool midfielder Can has spoken out about his situation, telling Corriere dello Sport: ''Obviously I'm not satisfied with my situation, but I'm keeping my foot on the accelerator and I give 100 per cent in every training session.

''I'm trying to change my situation, no player is happy when they don't play. That's my situation in Turin right now and I'll have to think about what makes the most sense to me over the winter.

''I certainly see myself staying in Turin, but the situation must change''.

The 25-year-old has had minimal starts this season, alongside his teammate 33-year-old Mandzukic who is yet to feature.

The Croatian striker has been linked with a move to Old Trafford for a while, but now Dortmund are hoping to get in there before the Red Devils.

Earlier this month, Allegri hinted at the prospect of a move to United, saying: ''I speak English too poorly for now, but I am learning''.

If anything a successful snapping up of Can and Mandzukic could improve things when it comes to Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial.

The pair are thought to be better playing out wide rather than in the middle where they are placed for the Red Devils.

One thing is almost certainly widely agreed and that is that United are in need of an overhaul and the arrival of both players could jolt things in a positive way.
