Conor Thomas rescues point for Cheltenham

Conor Thomas’ second-half penalty earned Cheltenham a 1-1 draw at home to Colchester.

Thomas converted from the spot in the 70th minute after substitute Reuben Reid had been tripped in the box by goalkeeper Dean Gerken.

The goal cancelled out Luke Norris’ 28th-minute opener for Colchester.

Cheltenham started well, with Charlie Raglan’s header hitting the bar after Chris Clements’ corner in the sixth minute.

But Tom Eastman’s ball caught out the home defence and goalkeeper Scott Flinders, with Norris tapping home.

Courtney Senior raced through one-on-one late in the first half, but placed his shot wide of the far post.

Cheltenham changed both strikers at the break, with Reid and Gavin Reilly going on.

They combined immediately, with Reid thumping a shot wide after Reilly chested down to him.

Cohen Bramall’s free-kick was met by Eastman at the far post, but his effort hit the side-netting and Cheltenham deservedly levelled 20 minutes from the end.

The home side looked the more likely winners, with real pressure applied in the final stages, but Colchester held on for a point.
