Aaron Hayden in line to start for Carlisle against Cambridge

Carlisle caretaker manager Gavin Skelton has options available for the visit of Cambridge.

Skelton was impressed by the performance of defender Aaron Hayden in a midweek reserve game which also saw midfielder Stefan Scougall play 60 minutes as he nears a return to first-team action.

Hallam Hope returned to the country on Thursday after scoring twice for Barbados in their win over the Cayman Islands on Tuesday and will be assessed.

Mo Sagaf missed last week’s loss at Port Vale due to a head injury but has trained this week and is in contention to return.

Cambridge manager Colin Calderwood hopes to have several players back for the trip to Brunton Park.

Calderwood was without nine first-team players for Tuesday’s FA Cup replay defeat to Exeter.

Midfielders Luke Hannant and Paul Lewis and defender George Taft could return to the squad, with Taft listed among the substitutes against Exeter by mistake.

Forward Harvey Knibbs is doubtful after aggravating an ankle problem against the Grecians.
