Derek Adams confident of further improvement at Morecambe

New Morecambe boss Derek Adams is backing his side to improve after a battling point at Crawley took them off the bottom of League Two.
A first-half penalty by top scorer Bez Lubala, his ninth goal of the season, put Crawley ahead but Cole Stockton rescued a point with a fine first-time shot from a cross by Tom Brewitt nine minutes from time.
Adams, on his 500th game as a manager, was delighted to get off the mark in his first league game in charge.
He said: “It was a very good performance away from home.
“We started very well, could have scored three goals early on, and the resilience we showed pleased me the most.
“I’ve only been at the club for five days and we have had two games already so it`s been difficult.”
Former Plymouth boss Adams ,44, is looking for steady improvement and added: “We’ve got ability in the team.
“We’ve got to tidy up in certain areas to improve. We’ve got a tight knit group and all work for each other.
“We are going to take it a step at a time; we just need to improve. We need to be better in the final third.”
Crawley have only won one league game since the middle of September and head coach Gabriele Cioffi said he felt the team did not deserve to be booed at the end.
The Italian said: “I was surprised by the reaction. We didn’t deserve the boos and I would prefer to be the target.
“Expectation is high and I can understand the fans’ frustration. Because of the momentum of the game, I didn’t think we deserved the boos.”
Cioffi, who turned down the chance to leave for job in Europe in the New Year, is backing himself to succeed.
He added: “After last season, I don’t have pressure at all. I think I`ll be successful.”
Crawley have only taken two points from their last five games and Cioffi felt inexperience is a factor.
He said: “It was two points dropped but I can`t say anything against the boys.
“We have to be fast learners. We have one of the youngest squads in the league.”
