Some Arsenal insiders are unhappy that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been made captain due to his relationship with AFTV
Arsenal bosses are reportedly concerned following the decision to make Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang club captain.
The striker was given the armband last month following Granit Xhaka’s public outburst at fans.
The Swiss midfielder furiously told supporters to “f*** off” as he left the pitch, with Emery ditching him as skipper.
Aubameyang has certainly proven his worth to Arsenal on the pitch, with his eight strikes accounting for exactly half of the Gunners’ Premier League goals this season.
But it has been reported that some Emirates bosses are unsure about the decision due to the Gabonese’s relationship with fan-based YouTube channel AFTV.
Previously known as ‘Arsenal Fan TV’, the channel has been critical of the club in recent years, voicing supporters opinions outside the Emirates.
There is general consensus that AFTV’s growth has lead to an increase in negativity towards a number of areas around the club.
It was thought that it was a “smart” move to strike up a relationship with the channel, but having now been made captain, Gunners bosses are unsure if he should be seen as ‘promoting’ their content.
In addition, Aubameyang has previously liked contentious posts on Instagram which included one over the summer criticising Emery and another calling for Xhaka to be sold in September.
There is also a concern that the closer the No. 14 gets to the channel, the more immune he will become from criticism, even if his performance level drops.
It is also thought that Aubameyang has also been asked to stop inviting AFTV member Troopz to use his executive box, which is primarily intended to house family and friends.
AFTV have interview a number of Arsenal legends in the past, including Ian Wright and Thierry Henry.
