Easy work for Northampton at Chippenham

Chippenham’s FA Cup dreams were dashed by half-time as Northampton breezed to a 3-0 victory in Wiltshire.
Harry Smith opened the scoring and Vadaine Oliver netted twice as the League Two side dominated proceedings throughout at Hardenhuish Park.
Just four minutes in Chippenham goalkeeper Will Puddy was forced to keep out a Nicky Adams effort before Oliver nodded the rebound off the crossbar.
Puddy, busy throughout, had to beat a stinging Alan McCormack shot behind at the second attempt, but with home defender Will Richards off receiving treatment Smith headed in Adams’ resulting corner.
Four minutes later it was 2-0 when Oliver rose steeply to turn in an Adams cross.
Charlie Goode also rattled the crossbar from 35 yards, while Nat Jarvis headed Chippenham’s two most presentable openings off target.
Northampton’s third arrived in added time, a second for Oliver, touching in a driven Paul Anderson cross-shot.
Chippenham tightened up at the interval and though Northampton continued to run the show for 20 minutes, they were unable to create any clear-cut chances.
The hosts put on a spell of late pressure which saw Karnell Chambers’ thumping effort bundled behind before Chris Zebroski skidded an effort past a post, but by then it was already too late.
