Manchester United tried to sign Jadon Sancho in the summer transfer window but have not lost hope in signing the Borussia Dortmund star.

Manchester United have made Jadon Sancho their top priority, reports have claimed.

The England international is one of the hottest prospects in world football following his stunning breakthrough season with Borussia Dortmund last term.

That’s captured the attention of Manchester United, who see Sancho as the ideal fit to become a leading figure in their rebuild under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

And according to German football journalist Raphael Honigstein, they are already planning another move for the winger. But they are not alone.

“Everyone's interested in Sancho,” Honigstein said in a Q&A for The Athletic.

“Man Utd seem to have made him a priority but LFC will think carefully about him as well, I'm sure.”

We have seen in the past with the likes of Mats Hummels, Mario Gotze (both now back at the club), Shinji Kagawa and Robert Lewandowski, that the Bundesliga outfit struggle to keep hold of their best players.

And Honigstein believes Borussia Dortmund are slowly preparing to sell Sancho, knowing they can demand an astronomic fee and reinvest that money to improve other areas of the squad.

“I’m pretty certain Dortmund will cash in - if the price is right,” he added.

“No one's under any illusions.”

United are already one step ahead of Liverpool, having made contact over a potential deal last summer.

Dortmund chief Michael Zorc opened up on meetings between the German club and the Red Devils regarding Sancho in episode three of Amazon Prime’s ‘All or Nothing’ series.

The clip, which was filmed back in March, shows Signal Iduna Park bigwigs Matthias Sammer, Sebastian Kehl and chairman Hans-Joachim Watzke in a meeting.

Zorc said: “A hot topic right now is Sancho and Manchester United. Both his discussions with the club and mine with the consultants.

“A meeting did take place. Manchester United invited the consultant.

“But according to what I know, the consultant told the club that no matter how much money they offer, we won't let him go this summer.

“But the player also has no intention of taking that step this summer."

Former Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann, who won the Champions League with the Reds in 2005, has claimed that his former side are sniffing around Sancho.

"What I hear is that Liverpool have great interest," Hamann told Sky Germany.

"I would imagine that next summer they could become one of the biggest interested parties.

"He's from Manchester City and I do not know if he would come back again, and it's a thing for Manchester United, too, if they've ever been to the rivals.

"There are currently few players that could reinforce [Liverpool's] offensive [line-up].

"I don't know if Sancho's such a player, but maybe if there's one going away from those three, then Sancho would be predestined for this offensive alliance."
