Arsenal manager Unai Emery is hardly hiding the fact he no longer sees the World Cup winner as a key part of his first team plans at the Emirates.

And that has been enough for Mundo Deportivo to say that Emery is keen to bring in a replacement for Ozil in the shape of Real Madrid's Isco.

They say the Gunners and City are prepared to do battle for the Spanish international playmaker who is once again seemingly out of favour at the Bernabeu.

Isco, 27, has struggled to convince in the playmaking role for Real since Cristiano Ronaldo left the club and currently finds himself out of Zinedine Zidane's plans.

But despite that it is suggested Isco may still be a target of two of the biggest clubs in the Premier League.

They say Emery could be tempted into a bid for the attacking midfielder if he can ease Ozil and his £350,000-a-week wages off the payroll at the Emirates.

But even then such a move could face problems if City enter the running for the player.

It is suggested that Pep Guardiola is considering his own attempt to snatch Isco away from the Bernabeu as he looks ahead to next season.
David Silva is in the final year of his career at the Etihad, and Isco could apparently be a player in the same style to replace him.

If a second club entered the bidding then that would allow Real to hold out for a higher fee, with a reported valuation of £60million.

That kind of money could well be too much for Arsenal to stretch to at a time when their budget for transfers is still relatively tight.

And City themselves would surely baulk at such a figure in the knowledge Phil Foden is expected to emerge as a first team regular by next season.
