George Evans in contention for Derby following thigh problem

George Evans is ready to return from a two-month lay-off as Derby’s difficult week ends with a Pride Park visit from Middlesbrough.

Evans, the former Reading midfielder, has not played since the end of August because of a thigh injury, but Craig Forsyth (knee) will continue to build-up his fitness with the Under-23s.

Curtis Davies played in a protective mask at Hull last week after breaking his nose, and the defender is likely to do so again as Derby aim for a fourth successive home win.

Manager Phillip Cocu has urged Derby to show their professionalism after the club’s decision to terminate the contract of captain Richard Keogh “for gross misconduct” following an internal disciplinary hearing.

Young Middlesbrough goalkeeper Aynsley Pears will continue to deputise for Darren Randolph.

Republic of Ireland international Randolph faces another two to three weeks sidelined by the thigh injury which ruled him out of the goalless draws against Huddersfield and Fulham.

Boro, who are in the relegation zone and yet to win away this season, have been boosted by club captain George Friend’s return to light training after knee surgery.

Striker Rudy Gestede is not expected to return until mid-December due to a hamstring problem.
