Dean Keates is still looking for his first league win since his return as Wrexham manager after a 1-0 home defeat to Chesterfield.
Michael Chambers’ own goal gave the Spireites a second away league win in succession, dragging them out of the bottom four and dropping the Dragons into the relegation zone.
The only goal came after 32 minutes when Chambers headed the ball past his own goalkeeper following a flick on by Chesterfield striker Tom Denton.
Wrexham came close to an equaliser after the break as they struck the post, but John Sheridan’s side held on to secure the win.
