Kyle Walker believes his England career is over at the age of just 29.

Walker has been left stunned after being axed from Gareth Southgate's Three Lions squad for the second time in a row.

The Manchester City full-back was told by Southgate last month he was still his first choice, despite being left out of the squad for the Euro 2020 qualifiers against Bulgaria and Kosovo.

He thought he would be recalled this week for the upcoming qualifiers against Czech Republic and Kosovo, but has been left out once again in favour of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Kieran Trippier.

Now Walker is resigned to the fact he might never play for England again, despite being in good form for City at what should be the peak of his career.

Just over 12 months ago Walker was instrumental in helping England reach the World Cup semi-finals in Russia and had ambitions of going on to win 100 caps.

Now it looks like he might not even win 50 after finding himself stuck on 48 and a source close to Walker said: "He fears this could be the end of him when it comes to England.

"He's only 29, at his peak. He thinks he should be in the squad, but it appears Gareth Southgate is not having him. It's ridiculous and doesn't look good moving forward."

Walker has been left out along with fellow World Cup heroes Dele Alli and Jesse Lingard by a ruthless Southgate, who is keen to blood the youngest talent possible.

Southgate has been given a headache at right back due to having four top class players available in the shape of Walker, Trippier, Alexander-Arnold and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

He named three right backs in his last squad and with Wan-Bisska absent from the latest one due to illness could have recalled Walker, but chose not to.

When asked about his decision to snub Walker again, he admitted it had nothing to do with his form and hinted his attacking skills might no longer be good enough.

He said: "I said last month that we wanted to look at a couple of the other full backs - a different profile. I was really happy with what Kieran (Trippier) and Trent (Alexander-Arnold) did in the matches.

"They're both in good form for their clubs. Kyle (Walker) is also in good form for his club. Kyle is a slightly more defensive full-back. He has good qualities with the ball, but the other two boys we felt did well last month and we didn't feel the decision to change would be the right one.

"I think he's playing well. It's not the case that he's playing poorly, we've just got really good competition in certain positions on the field.

"We've got really good quality, really good competition for places. There are some really tight calls and difficult conversations to have with players."
