Since leaving Manchester United in December, Jose Mourinho has appeared as a pundit, as a awards ceremony guest and now as the face of bookmaker Paddy Power.

The Portuguese appeared in his first advert for the Irish firm on Thursday morning, with the theme of the promotion revolving around his nickname of the 'Special One'.

Mourinho frequently makes reference to the fact he is special, as he pokes fun at his career at United.

"It's not easy being special, let me explain," the former Old Trafford boss says at the beginning of the advert.

"To be special, you need to be consistent. "I've been special in Milan, in Madrid... but not all great achievements get trophies."

At this point, the camera pans to a fake newspaper which reads: "United clinch second" - relating to the Red Devils' second-place finish in 2018.

Mourinho has often been criticised for his United tenure after his dismissal in December.

But no manager has managed to guide the club to a higher position than the 56-year-old since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson.

Mourinho's successor Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is under pressure at present after a tricky start to the season.

But the former Chelsea boss claims he takes no pleasure from seeing the club in such a predicament.

“I was sacked, probably deserved to be sacked because I am responsible as manager, but the sad reality is that they are worse than before," he told Sky Sports on Sunday afternoon.

"And for me that is a sad thing, maybe people think I’m enjoying the situation but I’m not enjoying it at all.

“I have people in the club I love, I have lots of respect for the fans and for me it’s really sad."

Solskjaer is facing even more pressure at United following Wednesday's 1-1 draw with Rochdale in the Carabao Cup.

The Premier League strugglers avoided total embarrassment against the League Two side, beating them 5-3 on penalties.
