Yeovil win five-goal thriller against AFC Fylde

Yeovil climbed to fourth in the National League standings after beating AFC Fylde 3-2 in an action-packed match at Huish Park.

The Glovers took control thanks to two early goals as James Tilley set up Rhys Murphy from a free-kick for the first in the fifth minute before Myles Hippolyte scored from Matt Worthington’s pass across goal in the 14th.

Murphy thought he had added the Glovers’ third in the 23rd minute but it was ruled out for offside, moments after Luke Wilkinson’s header was cleared off the line.

Yeovil goalkeeper Luke O’Brien did well to deny a shot from distance by Danny Rowe shortly before the break.

Mark Yeates fired narrowly wide for the Coasters early in the second half but Kurt Willoughby did pull one back for the visitors when he fired in a loose ball in the 59th minute.

O’Brien then got a finger to Scott Duxberry’s effort to push it onto the post after his mazy run to keep Yeovil ahead.

The Glovers wrapped up the win with a goal on debut for Jimmy Smith, who scored from the corner of the box in the 78th minute, but there was still time for a second by Willoughby with two minutes remaining to ensure a nervy finish.
