Jose Mourinho delivers fresh title prediction during Arsenal vs Tottenham

Liverpool and Manchester City will “clearly” battle it out for the Premier League title again this season, according to Jose Mourinho.

City pipped the Reds to glory in astonishing fashion last term, bettering their rivals’ stunning tally of 97 points by just one in a truly iconic title race.

Both sides are unbeaten so far this season, too, with the champions hammering Brighton 4-0 yesterday and Jurgen Klopp’s men recording a 3-0 win away at Burnley.

And Mourinho, working as a Sky Sports pundit for today’s north London derby showdown between Arsenal and Tottenham, expects City and Liverpool to finish in first and second place again this season.

“I think both [Arsenal and Spurs need the points],” he said.

“We were having a laugh at Old Trafford in the first fixture of the season. I was having the joke of Man City B, Spurs, Liverpool and Man City.

“Just three or four weeks later, we understand clearly Liverpool and Man City are going to finish first and second, or second and first.

“Can Tottenham or Arsenal be there? They push for it, I think today is very important for them to win.

“If they don’t do it, the distance just after four weeks is the distance that impresses a little bit.”

Tottenham have stormed into a 2-1 lead at the Emirates this afternoon.

Christian Eriksen opened the scoring for the visitors, before Granit Xhaka’s foul on Son Heung-Min in the box allowed Harry Kane to step up and double their lead from the penalty spot.

But Alexandre Lacazette gave Unai Emery’s a crucial lifeline with a superb strike in first-half stoppage time to half the deficit.
