On Friday, Fernando Torres will play in his final game as a professional footballer, featuring for Sagan Tosu against a Vissel Kobe team which has his friends Andres Iniesta and David Villa in their ranks.

Ahead of the occasion, Iniesta has written an emotional letter to his former team-mate in the Spanish national team.

"Football brought us together more than 20 years ago, when we were kids. Well, you will always be 'El Nino' [The Kid]," Iniesta wrote in El Mundo.

"And nothing will separate us.

"We found each other when we had dreams of utopia.

"That goal that you scored in the under European Under-16 Championship against England, I will never forget the gesture of you dedicating that goal to me.

"I watched it on television because I had to come home due to injury."

Iniesta highlights the friendship that has brought them together, even though they never played together at club level.

"That unforgettable pass from Xavi [Hernandez] to make sure that the wise one, the teacher, Luis [Aragones], was right," he penned.

"That cross you made so that we could all score the most important goal of our lives.

"Separated, but always together, and until the end, above any shirt or club."

Ahead of the final fixture, Iniesta was keen to recognise the occasion.

"You face 'El Guaje' Villa and me, then, you will return home," he wrote.

"Your people are waiting for you, although you have to know that the game will be sadder today than it was yesterday.

"Enjoy everything that comes your way and be happy.

"But how strange, Fernando, you haven't left yet and I already miss you."

Torres, emotional

The striker tweeted his reaction on social media and had clearly been left without words.

"Today I have woken up knowing that I will play my last game as a professional and thinking that I would face it with normality," he tweeted.

"After I have read the letter of a friend, I've begun to get emotional. Thank you, friend."
