ALEXIS SANCHEZ missed Manchester United training today - to make a trip to the US Embassy in London.

Sanchez is desperately trying to prove his worth to boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in case a move away from Old Trafford falls through this month.

But he was absent this morning as the rest of the squad prepared for this weekend's clash at home to Crystal Palace - leaving him further away from a first-team chance.

Instead he was in the queue at the new American Embassy in Battersea attempting to sort out a visa for visiting the States.

Sanchez is expected to be part of the Chile squad which is due to play a friendly against Argentina in Los Angeles next month.

And he needed to queue up along with the rest of the applicants this morning, looking to get the clearance needed to enter the country.

United granted him permission to travel down to London instead of training with the rest of the squad, with his future at the club up in the air.

Solskjaer is happy to let the 30-year-old leave this month after deciding he was not part of his plans for the future.

But United have struggled to find interested clubs willing to come up with the kind of money it would need to sign him, even on loan.

Italian club Inter Milan have emerged as the most likely to strike a deal for a season-long loan, but are baulking at the money they are expected to pay.

United want a loan fee of around £13million, and for Inter to stump up half of his £505,000-a-week wages.

The Serie A side are comfortable with that, but are not keen to pay more than £150,000-a-week should they make the deal permanent.

And that clause is proving to be a stumbling block, with United facing having to pay Sanchez the outstanding £36m he would be due from the remainder of his contract at Old Trafford.

The two clubs are scheduled to continue talking this week, with the transfer window in Italy closing on September 2.
