Lowe on a high after Carabao Cup win

Ryan Lowe is looking forward to a home clash with Reading after Plymouth’s “superb” Carabao Cup display against Leyton Orient.

Plymouth will host the Royals in round two after a 2-0 first-round win over their League Two rivals.

Manager Lowe said: “I am delighted we are through and it’s another home tie for us to look forward to because I am sure Reading will bring a lot of fans and we’ll have a lot of fans here as always. It makes for an entertaining game.”

Callum McFazdean’s measured 59th-minute finish and Dom Telford, via a post three minutes later, scored for Argyle.

Lowe said: “We were superb. I was speaking to their manager and he gave us lot of credit.

“Sometimes they can get nervous but we are starting to move the ball about a bit quicker, faster, a bit slicker.

“Obviously to score two goals, which should have probably been three, then I am always happy when we score goals.

“We made a few changes as well, knowing that the lads when they are called upon can step up and now we know they can.

“Josh Grant has come and done fantastic tonight. We know now that everyone is capable of coming into our squad and putting on a performance for Argyle like that, otherwise they wouldn’t be here.

“I knew it anyway because we put the squad together but it’s nice to see it come together.”

Orient interim manager Ross Embleton believes he saw genuine contenders for an immediate promotion back to League One.

He said: “We were beaten by the better team on the night and if this performance is anything to go by I think they will go close come the end of the season.

“We made four changes to give people an opportunity and utilise the squad. The games are brutal, we spent seven and a half hours on a coach on our way here yesterday which you have to take into consideration.

“I have every faith in the boys. Although we were beaten by the better team I think in the first half we showed good attitude and defended well – but obviously in the second half we are frustrated by the goals we let in, again.”
