Zaha has been the talk of the transfer window with a number of clubs chasing him.

Arsenal had been the favourites for some time and even made an offer of £40m for the forward but it was turned down and regarded as derisory.

Palace have been reluctant to open talks with any club and slapped an £80m price-tag on him to ward clubs off.

The Gunners have instead turned elsewhere in the search for a wide forward, splashing out on Nicolas Pepe from Lille.

Everton attempted to make the most of Unai Emery's decision by making a mammoth bid of their own for Zaha worth £52m.

The Eagles rejected the Toffees, who have insisted there has not been a second offer.

But the Goodison Park outfit have received a timely boost after it emerged that Palace were in for his replacement.

The Daily Mail have reported that the south London outfit are looking to snap up Brentford winger Ollie Watkins in an £11m move.

Palace are not the only team to take an interest in the 23-year-old, with a host of Premier League sides monitoring him.

But the Selhurst Park side have taken the initiative by submitting an offer.

Roy Hodgson has expressed his annoyance over the current transfer window, with Palace having a slow summer.

Only Jordan Ayew and Stephen Henderson have joined while they are yet to replace Aaron Wan-Bissaka - who joined Manchester United for £50m.

The Daily Mail report that Olympiacos right-back Omar Elabdellaoui is being looked at, while there are also plans afoot to snap up Victor Camaresa - who spent last season on loan to Cardiff.

With their striker options looking thin, Hodgson also wants to sign Watkins’ team-mate Neal Maupay, who had a fine campaign with the Bees last season.

The Frenchman netted 28 goals in all competitions and a host of Premier League clubs are interested.

Aston Villa and Sheffield United are also looking at the 22-year-old to bolster their attacks.
