Everton are closing in on signing Wilfried Zaha with Arsenal now getting Nicolas Pepe instead

Everton bid £55m for Zaha

Everton are closing in on the signing of Wilfried Zaha following Arsenal's agreement to sign alternative target Nicolas Pepe.

The Gunners failed to get anywhere near Crystal Palace's £80m valuation of Zaha and ultimately turned their attention to Pepe this week.

Arsenal have struck a £72m deal with Lille for the Ligue 1 goalscorer and he is set to head for the Emirates Stadium soon.

In the wake of Arsenal's agreement over signing Pepe, Everton have lodged a £55m straight-cash bid to Palace for Zaha, according to Sky Sports.

No Toffees players were included in their £55m offer, with a compromise potentially edging closer.

The Times say Everton are near to agreeing a deal on the transfer, which has been prioritised by Marco Silva.

Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn is wanted at Manchester United by Sir Alex Ferguson

Ferguson approves McGinn transfer

Sir Alex Ferguson is pushing for Manchester United chiefs to turn their attention to signing John McGinn from Aston Villa.

The Red Devils icon is close friends with McGinn's grandad Jack.

And Ferguson rates the Scotland international particularly highly - so much so he wants to see him brought to Old Trafford.

McGinn is valued at £50m, and Dean Smith would hate to lose him ahead of Villa's return to life in the Premier League.

The tough-tackling yet technically gifted left-footed midfielder carries all the attributes Ferguson believes United need in the middle.

McGinn provides a threat in front of goal and huge energy, and Ferguson is using his power at the club to force home a potential deal.

According to The Sun, Ferguson's seal of approval over McGinn may be enough to convince United chiefs he is worth the money.
