STEVE BRUCE has told Manchester United: Sean Longstaff is going nowhere.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side have been eyeing up the Newcastle midfielder all summer with the view to submitting a £30million bid.
But Bruce insists there is no way local lad Longstaff will be sold this summer.
The new Toon boss last week likened Longstaff to Old Trafford legend and fellow Geordie Michael Carrick.
And Bruce, 58, believes the youngster will be an integral part of his team at St James' Park this season.
He said: “We don’t want to sell our best young players, that’s for sure.
“So that won’t happen. I’m very confident of that.”
Bruce this week made £40million striker Joelinton his first Newcastle signing in a club-record deal.
And he wants Nice’s £20million-rated winger Allan Saint-Maximin, 22, to be his next new arrival.
The Toon have already had a bid of £14m knocked back for the Frenchman.
But Bruce said: “I don’t think it’s on the verge of happening but it’s somebody we have looked at.
“It’s somebody we have identified and we will see what happens.”
Bruce also confirmed Jamaal Lascelles will stay as his skipper - and insists there is a clean slate for all of his squad, including those who were frozen out by Benitez.
He added: “The first thing I said to them is that I’m not interested in what’s gone on in the past.
“The slate’s wiped clean with all of them. The time is now to stake your claim.
“There’s one or two or three who have got the benefit of a new manager coming in. It’s up to them now.”
