The Argentine superstar, who has three children with childhood sweetheart Antonella Roccuzzo, is staying in a luxurious villa at Jumby Bay in Antigua.

Roccuzzo shared a picture of her smiling husband on Instagram sitting on the resort's main beach clutching a Corona, with the caption: "relax."

Messi also kept fans up to date with his hotel getaway by posting a photo of himself and her posing in front of their idyllic infinity pool later that day.

The star has been on vacation since Argentina's miserable Copa America campaign where they suffered semi-final defeat to winners Brazil.

Messi's misery was then compounded after he was sent off for only the second time in his career for clashing heads with Gary Medel as his side beat Chile 2-1 in the third-place play-off.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner suggested Argentina could have done better at the tournament if hosts Brazil had not been favoured by "corrupt" referees.

Messi is still waiting to find out whether his original three-match ban for the red card could be extended for his rant, with reports claiming he could be suspended from international football for up to two years.

It is unconfirmed when he will take the trip back to Catalonia to begin pre-season training, with Barcelona set to travel to Japan next week.

Messi will definitely be back in time to face Arsenal on August 4 however after Ernesto Valverde's side named him as captain for the game at the Camp Nou.
