ARSENAL have beaten Tottenham to the signing of Real Madrid star Dani Ceballos, as Spurs only wanted to sign the player on a permanent transfer, whereas he’ll be joining the Gunners on loan.

Arsenal have reportedly hijacked Tottenham’s bid to sign Real Madrid starlet Dani Ceballos.

The 22-year-old will join Unai Emery at the Emirates Stadium in a loan deal, after Zinedine Zidane has given his blessing, according to Sky Sports.

The deal suits both parties, as Ceballos still has hopes of working his way into Zidane’s plans at the Bernabeu.

Arsenal, meanwhile, already have limited transfer funds this summer. A long deal will allow Emery to focus his finances elsewhere.

The Spain Under-21 star has been linked with a move to North London since the end of the season.

But, he appeared to be more likely to make the switch to Tottenham, with Mauricio Pochettino very keen to get the deal over the line.

But the Spurs boss was only interested in signing Ceballos on a permanent deal, or at least in a loan deal with an option-to-buy.

Real Madrid are equally as happy with the proposed loan move to Arsenal, as he impressed during the Under-21s European Championships last month.

The Spaniard, who was named in the U21 EUROs Team of the Tournament, also personally preferred a move to Arsenal instead of Tottenham.

He thinks he’d be given more first-team opportunities at the Emirates Stadium, instead of under Pochettino.

The youngster expressed his desire to feature as much as possible next season to help with his development.

“I’ve always said I have four-year contract with Real Madrid, but it is true that I'm happy playing football,” said Ceballos.

“That’s when I feel important in the field and with confidence when everything is much easier.

“The next year I want to play 40 games and aspire to win.”

Meanwhile, Arsenal are still on the hunt for a winger, a left-back, a centre-back, and a striker this summer.

The Gunners have been linked with moves for Kieran Tierney, Nicolas Otamendi, Nicolas Pepe, and Wilfried Zaha since the end of the season.
