Chelsea fans beg for Ruben Loftus-Cheek contract extension after injury update

CHELSEA fans received an update on Ruben Loftus-Cheek today – but it was not the one they were hoping for.

The Blues confirmed the arrival of Frank Lampard today from Derby.

With three Premier League wins and a Champions League honour in London, the Englishman arrives after taking the Championship side to a play-off final.

Lampard has been praised for giving youngsters such as Mason Mount a chance to play.

And one star who will hope to benefit from this is Loftus-Cheek.

The midfielder scored 10 goals and made five assists over 40 appearances last season.

But he was kept out of the squad a the start of the season by former manager Maurizio Sarri.

And an achilles tendon rupture suffered in May 2019 has been expected to keep the 23-year-old out until December.

Footage has emerged, tough, of the Englishman getting on with his recovery.

In the clip, Loftus-Cheek can be seen in the Chelsea gym.

And he is up on his feet, walking tentatively across the floor.

The Blues star does not spend a long time of his left ankle but manages to get across.

This footage was shared on Twitter earlier today, where it has been viewed nearly 200,000 times.

But fans expressed their disappointment at the update.

"For f***s sake, I thought you were announcing his contract extension,” one supporter said.

Another commented: “How about announcing his contract extension?”
