Iker Casillas Returns To FC Porto Pre-Season Duty Two Months On From Heart Attack

Iker Casillas has reported for pre-season duty with Porto two months after suffering a heart attack.

Back in May the 38-year old goalkeeper suffered an "acute myocardial infarction" during a training session and had to undergo emergency surgery before being discharged from hospital five days later.

There were a flurry of reports that Casillas was to retire from the game but on Monday he was present for the start of Porto's pre-season preparations ahead of the 2019/20 season.

The Spain legend posted a tweet featuring an image of him arriving at the training complex and attached the caption: "Back to work. Day one."

Casillas joined Porto in 2015 after spending 16 seasons in the Real first-team and recently signed a new contract in Portugal.

After signing his new contract, Casillas revealed his desire of seeing out the remaining days of his career at the club.

"Today is a very special day. I feel at home at this club. I want to stay here until I finish my career as a footballer," he said in March, as per The Mirror.

"When I got here, many would think it would be to play a year or two and finish. I only have words of appreciation to this club. Not only to the club but to the city itself."

Casillas, one of the greatest goalkeepers in the history of the game, has won five La Liga titles, three Champions Leagues as well as captaining Spain to the World Cup and European Championships.

It's not clear as of yet whether he is able to continue as a player, with Casillas' friend and colleague Victor Valdes urging him to hang up his gloves in an emotional statement in May.
