MANCHESTER UNITED could be forced to start the season with Alexis Sanchez still at the club.

United bosses are desperate to get rid of Sanchez but are struggling to off-load him.

Starsport understands there have been just two tentative enquires about Sanchez - from China and South America.

But no-one has come close to offering United a substantial fee - or is willing to match Sanchez's £500,000-a-week wages because of his age.

Sanchez, 30, is currently in Brazil helping Chile's attempts to win the Copa America.

He will not report for pre-season training on July 1, but could now be forced to join up with the rest of the United squad during their summer tour of Australia and the Far East.

It would prove to be an embarrassing scenario for both Sanchez and United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Sanchez has made no secret of his desire to find a new club, while Solskjaer is desperate to get him off the wage bill.

The Norwegian has been handed just £100m to spend on new signings this summer.

Bosses have told him if he wants more to spend he will have to generate funds himself by shipping out some of his big names.

Sanchez is top of the list, but Old Trafford directors are becoming increasingly frustrated by the lack of interest in Sanchez due to his exorbitant wages.

This is despite the fact executive vice chairman Ed Woodward is even prepared to fund some of his salary in the hope it persuades a club to take him.

Sanchez has been a huge flop since joining United on a free transfer from Arsenal in 2018.

He has scored just five goals in 45 appearances for United and netted just once in the last Premier League campaign.

He was out of the side towards the end of the season when Solskjaer refused to pick him.
