Frenkie De Jong tells Matthijs De Ligt to snub Man Utd and join him at Barcelona this transfer window
Frenkie de Jong wants his Dutch international team-mate Matthijs de Ligt to join him at Barcelona

FRENKIE DE JONG has revealed he has spoke to Matthijs de Ligt about the defender moving to Barcelona and urged him to shun interest from elsewhere.

Manchester United have been heavily linked with a swoop for the Ajax ace, with the 19-year-old expected to leave Dutch giants this summer.

De Ligt has been warned by a Barcelona chief he may as well be moving to China if he rejects them in favour of a move to Old Trafford.

It has been expected that he would link up with De Jong at the Nou Camp, with the midfielder agreeing a deal to join from Ajax for £65million in January.

Both started in Holland's 3-1 victory against England on Thursday as Ronald Koeman's men sealed their place in the Nations League final against Portugal.

Speaking after the win against the Three Lions, De Jong told reporters: "No, he has to make his own decisions.

"Of course I would like him to come to Barcelona but we will see what happens. It's up to him.

"I don't know, it's his decision. You have to ask him about it but I hope he comes to Barca."

Before he added: "Of course we talk about it [De Ligt joining Barca]. It's not up to me to say what he's going to do or his thoughts.

"I don't have an influence on his choice. He has to make it on his own and with his family."

According to ESPN, Paris Saint-Germain are looking to lure De Ligt to France as they plot a move for the Golden Boy Award winner.

They claim that Leonardo - who is finalising his return to the Ligue 1 side - is in constant contact with the player's agent Mino Raiola.

De Ligt - who netted Holland's equaliser against England - was criticised by fans during his performance in the first half after he gave a penalty away, while also being nutmegged by Jadon Sancho.
