When asked about whether he was staying at Spurs following the 2-0 defeat, he replied: “It is not moment now to talk too much, as it can be interpreted in different ways.

"After five years at Tottenham it was so clear the project.

"Our ambition was amazing and the commitment of our players amazing, providing us with our first ever Champions League final.

"Now it’s to be calm, change our mind & have time to talk."

His side had just been beaten by goals at either end of the game in Madrid, Mohamed Salah scoring from the spot in the second minute before Divock Origi's late goals.

Pochettino was naturally despondent following the defeat but was praised for a dignified post-match interview on television.

When speaking at his post-match press conference, he made clear it was a difficult moment to analyse where the club go from here.

"It’s to talk a lot now, so early," he continued.

"We need to assimilate that defeat. Sure we are going to have time to talk in the future."

Spurs began the campaign without spending a single penny in the transfer market and speculation was rife that Pochettino was growing disconsolate with the way the club was being run.

However he still ensured a top-four finish and reached the showpiece of European football for the first time in Spurs history.

Despite that being the case, he admitted to being hugely disappointed by the result.

He continued: "Now is impossible to talk.

"We are so disappointed. We are so proud.

"Our players and our fans gave everything in the final game of the season.

"Overall I thought we dominated the game and created some chances, but we didn’t score.

"It was so painful but at the same time we need to be calm in the way that we analyse things. We did so well this season."
