FORMER Red Devil Wayne Rooney wants to spark out presenter Jonathan Ross in the boxing ring after the joker mercilessly mocked the footie ace.

Wayne, 33, made the startling admission when he sat down with boxing promoter Eddie Hearn earlier this week.

In an interview, the DC United star begged: “Get me a fight with Jonathan Ross.”

Eddie was less keen on the billing, adding that 58-year-old Ross is not a “top one” to take on.

But Wayne was having none of it and snapped back: “I don’t care, I just want to get into a ring with him.”

When Hearn said that Wayne didn’t like the ITV host, the ex-England captain was noticeably silent.

Wayne’s apparent keenness to knock the stuffing out of Ross could well be due to the presenter’s brutal take-downs of the star.

Ahead of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa Ross compared Wayne to a gorilla.

He added: “He doesn’t even need the suit. ‘And now we bring out our mascot, the gorilla’, and Rooney comes lumbering out.”

The following year dad-of-four Wayne was included in the best father of the year poll – and Ross was not having any of it.

He said: “Wayne Rooney is on the list – is that a separate category for people with tails?”

Wayne has previously made known his feelings about Ross, branding the host as his “least favourite” TV personality on his website back in 2007.

But, as was pointed out on Hearn’s BBC podcast No Passion, No Point, Wayne has not fared well when previously donning boxing gloves.

In 2015, Phil Bardsley decked Rooney – knocking him to the floor during a sparring session in his own kitchen.

Wayne saw the funny side, however, and showed off his knockout goal celebration during a 3-0 win against Tottenham at Old Trafford.
