Transfer news UPDATES: Hazard to leave Chelsea? Barcelona in Coutinho decision

Man Utd to copy Liverpool

Manchester United must copy Liverpool to bridge the gap at the top of the Premier League, claims former Reds ace Stephen Warnock.

"If you look at Liverpool and [Sadio] Mane, nobody would have predicted what he would do when he cost £30m," Warnock said.

"[Mohamed] Salah, an ex-Chelsea reject, would people have predicted what he’s done? [Andy] Robertson was £8m. [Georginio] Wijnaldum, Newcastle got relegated when they got Wijnaldum but he’s been incredible for them.

"So if you look at players like that, they are not marquee signings as such but now they’re marquee players. That’s because they’ve been coached the right way and it comes down to the recruitment."

Solskjaer on Man Utd targets

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants prospects Manchester United can mould into global stars.

"I think I’ve been quite honest that challenging for the title next year would be a miraculous season because we’re so far behind at the moment points wise," Solskjaer said.

"And yes next season we’ve got to close that gap. But this summer will also be about players who can last here for many years.

"I don’t think we’ve ever been a ready made club - [Cristiano] Ronaldo was not ready made, [Wayne] Rooney was not ready made."

Solskjaer added: "Loads of players have come here and developed into the top superstars they’ve become."

Hazard to leave Chelsea?

Chelsea need to sell Eden Hazard because they cannot afford to let him go on a free transfer in 2020.

That is the verdict of Sky Sports pundit Danny Mills, who admits Hazard going will leave Chelsea with a dilemma.

"I would assume [he will leave], he’s got a year left on his contract and they’ve got to cash in," Mills said. "They cannot let him walk away for nothing and how productive is he going to be next season.

"Chelsea are now in a real difficult situation, because are they going to be as successful next season if Hazard leaves?"

Eriksen to Real Madrid prediction

Real Madrid are potentially the ONLY club who could prise Christian Eriksen away from Tottenham, believes Steve Nicol.

"I think it depends on who’s looking for him," Nicol said. "If Real Madrid, who we know are rebuilding, for example if it’s them, I think he leaves.

"He knows that Tottenham are still in England behind [Manchester] City and Liverpool. So he can rule out winning the Premier League I think for the next two or three years.

"That means he’s going to be, what, in a couple of seasons, 30? This is his last chance for a big move. When he left Ajax to go to Tottenham, that was a big move. Now, it seems the right time for him to make another big move.

"So unfortunately for Tottenham fans, I think if somebody likes a Real Madrid comes in, then he’s going to go."

Barcelona in Coutinho decision

Barcelona will sell Philippe Coutinho this summer because the playmaker has not adapted to life at the Nou Camp.

That is the verdict of former Premier League star Shaka Hislop, who said: "I’m going to say [it will be]: ‘Philippe it’s been nice but it’s just not worked out’.

"I thought Philippe Coutinho hit the ground running after that move from Liverpool to Barcelona. But then the injury and he never could seem to get back in stride with the rest of the Barcelona team.

"I think you’ve seen that over the last two games against Liverpool in particular. I thought he didn’t contribute anywhere near enough in a circumstance where you would expect a whole lot more going back to his former club. If I’m sitting in the Barcelona board, I’ve ran out of patience with Philippe Coutinho."
