4 reasons why Mariano must stay at Real Madrid

Mariano Diaz has barely been able to build any sort of rhythm in his first season back at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, but he was finally able to celebrate two goals in the victory over Villarreal on Sunday, and there are four clear reasons why the forward must be allowed to stay at Real Madrid.

He hasn't had continuity in the team

Injuries have plagued his season, and there has been a continued lack of confidence in his from coaches. This has dented his own self-belief and his performances have dipped as a natural consequence.

Santiago Solari left him out of important matches completely, namely against Ajax and the Clasicos, which was bizarre because the team needed goals in all of those matches.
Fans weren't able to comprehend the repeated absences, especially with the former Lyon star having a natural eye for goal.

This is the opportunity of his lifetime

Despite all the failures of the current campaign, this is still Real Madrid, arguably the biggest club in world football. Mariano had to leave in order to prove himself capable of playing for Los Blancos and he's not about to throw this chance away after just one difficult year.

Mariano didn't leave a position of comfort and continuity in France to give up in Madrid after just one season. He is determined to fight for his place next term, whether that is against Luka Jovic, Karim Benzema or even Rodrygo.

His statistics show he's a capable goalscorer

Real Madrid have never recovered from Cristiano Ronaldo's departure. They've missed his goals this term, and that is precisely the best attribute in Mariano's arsenal.

He's scored nine goals for Los Merengues, although only four have come in the current season.

He continues to dream of a place with La Roja

Mariano is desperate to play for Spain's national team, and he understands that whilst he's at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu his chances of receiving a call-up are higher.

He can look towards Alvaro Morata, who was a regular for the national team whilst he was barely being used as a substitute with Real Madrid.

Morata was given chances to play, he was able to score goals and this is the example Mariano hopes to follow. In a European Championship year, Mariano will be unwilling to risk his participation in the tournament by leaving the high-profile arena that is Real Madrid.
