Stevenage finish with a win but just miss out of play-offs

Stevenage rounded off their season with a 2-0 home win over Cheltenham, but it was not enough to snatch a play-off place.
Second-half strikes from Joe Martin and Jordan Gibson sealed the points for Dino Maamria’s side, but results elsewhere did not go their way and they end up 10th.
They were awarded a penalty in the 14th minute when Kurtis Guthrie was tripped by Ben Tozer.
But Guthrie’s effort from the spot was saved by Scott Flinders, diving to his right.
Tozer’s error presented Guthrie with another clear chance four minutes later, but his lobbed effort dropped over the bar.
Jacob Maddox played in Kevin Dawson for Cheltenham’s best chance, but Paul Farman saved his shot 10 minutes before half-time.
The deadlock was broken in the 56th minute when Martin fired in his first goal of the season after a corner from Ilias Chair was not dealt with by Cheltenham.
Gibson doubled the lead three minutes later, finishing well from just inside the box after a defensive mix-up.
