Partick Thistle out of relegation play-off zone after win at Ayr

Shea Gordon’s first league goal of the season secured Partick Thistle a 1-0 win at promotion-chasing Ayr.
Northern Ireland Under-21s midfielder Gordon, on loan from Motherwell, scored the only goal in the first half as Thistle climbed out of the relegation play-off place and into sixth place.
Gordon had already fired narrowly over after running the length of the pitch before curling home the game’s only goal into the top corner after Ayr had half-cleared James Penrice’s cross.
Kris Doolan found the side-netting after being played through by Gary Harkins just before half-time as the visitors continued to carry the greater threat.
Gordon was denied a second by Ross Doohan’s fine save early in the second period and the Ayr goalkeeper then held on to Joe Cardle’s effort from outside the box.
Ayr created few chances and the Jags went close again in the closing stages when Doolan and Miles Storey both had shots blocked.
