LIVERPOOL legend Steven Gerrard has opened up on his infamous slip against Chelsea in 2014.

Liverpool were on the verge of winning the Premier League title in 2014 when they faced Chelsea at Anfield.

The Reds had won their previous 11 games and were on a roll but, on a day where the pressure was on, they faltered.

Liverpool lost 2-0 to Chelsea with Gerrard at fault for Demba Ba’s opening goal. The Reds legend slipped to the ground while on the ball, allowing the then-Chelsea striker to burst through and find the net.

And Gerrard has now opened up on his slip, admitting the experience was the ‘worst day of his life’.

“Don't think (the epidural) is an excuse for what happened,” the Rangers manager told the Daily Mail.

“Not at all. What happened was just a pure bad stroke of luck for myself.

“That's why it was cruel. I haven't lost my man at a set piece. I haven't missed a penalty. I haven't made a bad pass.

“Every single person on the planet slips at some point, whether it is on a set of stairs, on the floor or whatever, but it happened on the pitch at a really bad moment.

“I’ve went through the pain in the dressing room after and in the weeks and months after it. It was the worst day of my life.”

In November, Gerrard also admitted the slip was ‘pure bad luck’.

"What happened was just pure bad luck,” he added.

“But, when you do a book or film, especially with people who have won Oscars and made films such as Amy and Senna, you must be as honest and open as you can."

Liverpool ended up missing out on the Premier League trophy that year.

Shortly after the game against Chelsea, the Reds were pitted against Crystal Palace in the Premier League.

However, they were subjected to a torrid game.

Liverpool raced into a 3-0 lead at Selhurst Park, moving them closer to title glory.

But Palace came back to draw 3-3, leaving Gerrard and Luis Suarez devastated at the final whistle.
