James Rodriguez has a Spanish passport, but Real Madrid still don't want him

James Rodriguez now has a Spanish passport and therefore won't occupy one of the squad places available for foreign players, should he return to Real Madrid with teams in LaLiga Santander able to register just three non-EU players.

But Madrid's plans for next season won't change because of this, and the club aren't planning on having the Colombian in their ranks after Zinedine Zidane made his return to the bench.

James left the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu because he had fallen down the pecking order under Zidane, and he was even discarded from the matchday squad ahead of the 2017 Champions League final in Cardiff.

Eden Hazard's likely arrival is more bad news for the Bayern Munich loanee as he would provide direct competition for a place in the team.

It's clear that James doesn't want to stay on in Bavaria, and Niko Kovac doesn't see him as someone that he would like to build his team around.

Juventus have expressed an interest in the midfielder and are the most likely destination, as things stand, for him for next season.

It's an option that James would be open to, more so than moving to the Premier League.
