Callum Lang bags brace as Oldham end Tranmere run with victory

Callum Lang struck in each half as Tranmere’s impressive winning run came to an end as they suffered a shock 2-0 defeat at north-west rivals Oldham.
Rovers had earned seven-straight victories before visiting Boundary Park, but they missed the chance to move up to fourth place in League Two after Lang hit a clinical double for the home side.
Oldham broke through after just seven minutes when Lang chased a long ball out of defence, cut in from the left and cleverly drilled his shot inside the near post from 12 yards.
Tranmere’s first sight of goal came on the half-hour, but home goalkeeper Daniel Iversen denied Oliver Banks after the ex-Oldham midfielder hit an ambitious long-range free-kick.
Kieron Morris wasted an opening for Rovers by dragging his effort off target before Emmanuel Monthe’s header skimmed the crossbar and Iversen saved from Jonathan Smith.
Oldham were under pressure, yet they doubled the lead just after the hour mark as Mohamed Maouche’s deflected pass allowed Lang to run at the visiting defence and coolly shoot into the far corner from 16 yards.
The resolute Latics saw out victory with few scares, inflicting Tranmere’s first defeat in 10 games.
