PHILIPPE COUTINHO will not return to Liverpool - as Barcelona have no interest in selling the playmaker.

That's according to Spanish football expert Guillem Balague.

The 26-year-old has been backed to return to the Premier League this summer, just 18 months after quitting Anfield for the Nou Camp.

Express Sport understands Manchester United are keen on the Brazil international, while Chelsea have also enquired over Coutinho.

Coutinho has struggled to impress at Barcelona, with the playmaker losing his place under Ernesto Valverde after a dip in form.

Reports in Spain last week claimed Barcelona are willing to sell Coutinho, providing a club is willing to pay at least £86m (€100m) this summer.

And Spanish football expert Balague has taken to his YouTube channel to discuss the Coutinho rumours, insisting the Brazilian will not return to the Premier League.

One fan asked: "Is it true Coutinho is on the market and what are the chances of him returning to Liverpool?"

Balague responded: "Liverpool are not interested in bringing him back.

"Barcelona don't want to sell!

"There's no intention to sell Coutinho. He has to improve, certainly, we haven't seen his best version.

"But Barcelona don't have the intention of selling him. That's what they're saying.

"I'm convinced that behind the stories is a real push to make him attractive to the Premier League in case Barcelona want to sell him.

"There's been meetings with representatives in Barcelona and the conclusion is they're not moving and Coutinho is very important to the side.

"Do they say that because that's what they must say at the moment?"

Liverpool are flying under Jurgen Klopp this season, with the Reds currently top of the Premier League table.

However, their title rivals Manchester City have a game in hand.

The Reds are back in action on Sunday afternoon against Tottenham in the Premier League (4:30pm kick off).
