Mourinho: Zidane is the right man for Real Madrid

Jose Mourinho has waxed lyrical about new Real Madrid head coach Zinedine Zidane, whilst also giving his opinion on the possibility of his former club signing Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe.

The Portuguese has been out of work since Manchester United sacked him in December.

Mourinho first discussed Zidane's achievements in his previous stint at the club during an interview with Canal Plus France.

"I think it is too early to talk about his career at Real Madrid, but in this short space of time he has won what nobody else has managed to do, which is three consecutive Champions Leagues," Mourinho said.

The controversial coach was then asked to give his opinion on what Zidane needs to do in order to continue his almost flawless success in his first reign.

"This is the start of a new era for both him and the players," he added.

"He has to come in and build a new team.

"He has to bring in new players and also oversee the exit of others.

"He will have to leave his mark.

"I believe he is the right man for the job.

Mourinho also gave his thoughts on Mbappe making a possible big money move to Los Blancos in the summer.

"The fact that he became a World Cup winner at such a young age will live in the memory of everyone," stated Mourinho.

"Sometimes you land on your feet and end up in an exceptional team, but that is not the case for him.

"He was one of the main reasons why France won the [2018] World Cup.

"I am not saying he is the best in the world, but he is arguably the player with the most potential in world football at this moment in time.

"If I was currently managing, I would not even attempt to sign Mbappe.

"I think he is unattainable [to buy] and I would like to say good luck to anyone that tries to sign him.

Finally, Mourinho was asked about his future in the game and whether he would like to return to management in the near future.

"I think about football 24 hours a day," he noted.

"Ideally I would like to win a domestic league title with a fifth different team or win the Champions League with another team."
