MANCHESTER UNITED and Manchester City have been hit with a transfer boost regarding Benfica star Joao Felix by the club's sporting director.

It’s been reported in recent weeks that Felix, who has produced outstanding performances for Benfica, will get a big move to a top European club at some point in the near future.

ESPN claim both Manchester United and Manchester City are among the clubs in England that are after the Portuguese’s signature.

But the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid are also lurking for the 21-year-old’s services.

Primarily an attacking midfielder, Felix can be used in various roles across a front three or even on the wing.

He’s been touted as one of Europe’s finest young prospects, and one that English clubs will certainly be keen to get their hands on.

And Benfica’s sporting director Manuel Rui Costa has given them a boost by noting the club can’t keep Felix forever.

“We will try to keep him as long as possible and that is the case for Felix as for any other player," Costa told Italian outlet Tuttosport.

“This is the club’s policy. Then we’ll see.

“We are aware the clauses exist for a reason and that certain players cannot be held back in Portugal indefinitely.”

Felix, though, spoke of his own future recently with Spanish newspaper Marca, where he highlighted what league he would like to play in.

“Right now, I'm only thinking about Benfica,” he said.

“We are heading towards the end of the season in a very close fight for the title.

"I cannot pause to think about everything that is happening around me.

“My dream has always been to play for the big teams and in the biggest competitions.

“But as I said, I am here and I am very happy at Benfica, which, like those teams, is also one of the biggest sides in Europe.”

Asked which league is more attractive between La Liga and the Premier League, Felix replied: “The Spanish [league].”
