Mesut Ozil Sends Arsenal Shirt To Kenyan Boy And Family Who Wore Homemade Kit

Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil has won the hearts of many this week after he sent signed shirts and boots to the family of a Kenyan boy who was pictured wearing a homemade kit with 'Ozil 10' on the back.

The boy, who goes by the name Lawrence, went viral when journalist Eric Njiru posted a picture of him on Twitter while he was herding cows.

"I saw this kid today grazing in the streets of Nairobi - a city without really grass for cows." he posted.

"He told me he loves @MesutOzil1088 so much(You can see his shirt). Maybe one day this can reach Ozil and get a real @Arsenal shirt."

Ozil reached out to Njiru on Twitter and sent Lawrence and his family a bundle of gifts including signed shirts and boots.

"The picture of a Kenyan boy with a self made shirt on Twitter touched me so much." Ozil said.

"And look at Lawrence now - it's so heartwarming to see him and his brothers happy."

The German midfielder went on to thank the sports journalist for helping him find the Kenyan boy. This is what football is all about.

The story picked up a huge amount of engagement in the space of a few days - even news crews visited Lawrence in his home town to interview him about receiving gifts from Ozil.

Here's just some of the reaction form social media.
