The La Liga giants saw their crisis deepen on Tuesday night when they were thrashed 4-1 by Ajax.

Defeat restored a sense of unwelcoming reality and spelt the end of their dominance in the Champions League, a competition they have won in four of the last five seasons.

Reports in Spain claimed that Florentino Perez stayed at the Santiago Bernabeu until 2am holding meetings about the club’s future after the full-time whistle.

The president and the board decided that Santiago Solari is set to remain in charge for the remainder of the season but he will not manage Real Madrid beyond this summer.

Los Blancos now have nothing to play for besides Champions League qualification having been dumped out of the competition and the Copa del Rey in the space of a week.

They are also 12 points behind La Liga leaders Barcelona after last week’s 1-0 defeat at the Bernabeu.

Now according to Marca, the club are already making plans for their summer transfer business.

Real Madrid believe they will sign Porto defender Eder Militao, all that awaits is his signature on the dotted line.

Besides the Brazilian the club also want a central defender, a left-back, two midfielders and a striker.

They deem the likes of Marco Asensio, Alvaro Odriozola, Toni Kroos and Raphael Varane to have a future at the club despite their recent woes.

For Gareth Bale and Isco though, their future remains uncertain and they could be sold this summer.

With a huge overhaul expected, Real Madrid are hoping to complete their business early to avoid competition from other clubs.

They will review each player in their current squad based on what they have achieved and whether they can still contribute moving forward.

Solari claimed after the Champions League embarrassment that he is not a quitter and will continue to try and turn things around.

"I did not come to the club in such a difficult moment to give up," Solari said.

"What we must do is remain as calm as possible in such a difficult moment and take it on with the best character.

"Madrid is bigger than any of us - it always returns - and returns even stronger."
