Real Madrid have 'not made contact' says Mourinho, but ex-Man Utd boss 'proud' fans were singing his name
Jose Mourinho claims Real Madrid have not made contact with him about replacing Santiago Solari as boss

JOSE MOURINHO claims Real Madrid have not contacted him about becoming their next manager.

The former Manchester United boss is the bookies' favourite to replace the under-fire Santiago Solari in the Bernabeu hotseat.

And Real fans made it clear they want the Portuguese, who managed the club between 2010 and 2013, to return by singing his name during last night's humiliating 4-1 home loss to Ajax.

Mourinho told El Chiringuito: "[Real Madrid’s defeat was] surprising... but I watched it with a lot of respect for what they had done before.

"You cannot win four, five, six Champions Leagues in a row.

"I makes me proud [that fans called my name] but Madrid has a manager. Obviously it makes me proud, but nothing more than that.

"But it is all hypothetical, I haven’t had any contact with them.

"It didn’t make me happy what happened. But we will see when another does achieve what they have, I don’t think it will ever happen."

Mourinho's comments come after former Real president Ramon Calderon claimed Madrid had sounded him out about the job.

Calderon said: "I have no doubt Mourinho is the first option for the president [Florentino Perez]. He's been called in the last weeks.

"It was when Zinedine Zidane left, Mourinho was with Manchester United and he said it was not the right moment to come back, but maybe now he's free.

"I think there will be many chances he will be on that bench next season."

Mourinho left Madrid by "mutual consent" in 2013 after falling out with senior players at the club, journalists and hitting out at La Liga referees.

But he enjoyed success in Spain, ending Barcelona's three-year dominance to win the league in 2011.

Mourinho also won the Copa del Rey that season and the Spanish super cup the following year.
